HVDC Pole 1 Recommissioning

What we're doing

In September 2007, Transpower announced that it was standing down the 42 year old Pole 1 of the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) inter-island link.

A number of reports have been commissioned by Transpower on Pole 1. These reports include assessing the condition of the assets as well as assessments undertaken by insurers.

Transpower is also investigating the need for a new Pole to supplement the existing Pole 2 of the HVDC link.
