Kawerau Generation Enhancement Project

Overview

What we're doing

We are proposing to install a replacement interconnecting transformer by 2014 to increase the transmission capacity of our Kawerau 110 kV network. Other line reconfiguration work will be undertaken in the meantime to relieve the capacity constraint at Kawerau.

Why we're doing it

There are three grid-connected generation stations connected to the Kawerau 110 kV network. During periods of low load and/or high generation, there are periods when this generation is constrained from being dispatched on the power system. There are also plans for new generation to be connected that will increase the likelihood of generation constraints.
