Lower North Island Transmission Investigation

Transpower is continuing its investigation of the LNI regional transmission assets to assess upgrade possibilities on the existing grid. Along with these upgrades other options such as the use of a System Protection Scheme (SPS) are also being investigated for feasibility.

Recently a summary of the LNI investigation project was given at the New Zealand Wind Energy Association (NZWEA) conference and that presentation can be found here.

The requirement to upgrade LNI transmission capacity will be largely dictated by generation development, so Transpower is working closely with generator companies prospecting in the region.
