CommunityCare Fund: Supporting communities

Transpower's CommunityCare Fund assists communities affected by Transpower assets and projects, by providing funding for projects that benefit the community as a whole.

The CommunityCare Fund makes grants for community projects along the existing National Grid route, as well as those affected by new Transpower projects.

To date, the CommunityCare Fund has supported 35 projects throughout the seven council regions affected by the North Island Grid Upgrade (NIGUP) project, with $1,035,261 in funding.

Successful projects affected by the NIGUP project have ranged from the technical fit out of the Computer Clubhouse Trust in Otara, to wetlands planting and boardwalks for the ‘Between the Bridges' project in Huntly and the purchase of two waka ama and paddle sets for the community agency in Mangakino.

Successful projects in our most recent round of funding also include:

  • Edgewater College, Pakuranga - $25,000 to complete the gymnasium refurbishment and expansion project
  • The Waikato Coalfields Museum - $10,000 to rewire the historic railway building
  • Pohlen Foundation Trust, Matamata - $40,000 to refurbish the hospital space to increase the number of beds available
  • Cambridge Order of St John, Cambridge - $20,000 for the station expansion project
  • Pukeatua School, Pukeatua - $10,000 for restoration of native bush and creation of a school garden
  • Whakamaru Residents and Ratepayers Association, Whakamaru - $8,335 to restore Sandy Bay beach in the Whakamaru conservation area.
