Welcome to Transpower’s Grid New Zealand update. This update is designed to provide a weekly summary of activity – consultations, submissions, workshops and key milestones – for projects that have been (or are soon to be) proposed to the Electricity Commission.
We have released an RFP (15 September) inviting firm proposals for Dynamic Reactive Support. Costing of capital projects has been completed.
Submissions are being considered with a view to confirming or amending the preferred options.

The long list has now been culled to a short list and the short list of options will be available shortly. Work has commenced on the detailed costing of the proposed line upgrade options.

An investment proposal for the Stratford to Wanganui 110 kV section has been submitted to the Electricity Commission. The proposal is to replace the existing conductor with a larger capacity conductor to avoid constraining the parallel 220 kV circuits and to enable renewable generation.
Next milestone: 06 November - Electricity Commission issues Notice of Intention to either approve or decline the proposal
Work is continuing on the Investment Proposal. The preferred solution is to increase the voltage on the Kaitimako–Tarukenga line and install two 220kV transformers at the Kaitimako substation.

Waiting for the Electricity Commission to declare its notice of intention.

Transpower received two submissions on the Bunnythorpe¬-Haywards thermal upgrade as part of the consultation on the wider Central North Island upgrade project.
Next milestone: To be confirmed - New timetable for Bunnythorpe–Haywards investment proposal
Transpower is investigating the installation of auto synchronisation points at relevant substations in its network. A Request for Information has been released for consultation.
Next milestone: 30 September - Request for Information consultation ends.
