Pakuranga to Penrose Cables

Overview

What we're doing

Pipes in a deep trench.

As part of its North Auckland and Northland (NAaN) Project, Transpower is installing an underground 220 kV cable connection between Pakuranga and Penrose, to provide more security to Auckland Central. The project will link at the Pakuranga end with the North Island Grid Upgrade project (a new transmission link between Whakamaru and Pakuranga).

Why we're doing it

This is a long-term solution providing sufficient capacity for the foreseeable future.
