Mt Maunganui Supply Transformer Replacement

Overview

What we're doing

Transpower is carrying out a project to increase its supply transformer capacity at the Mount Maunganui substation, to meet increased demand in this area.  The project involves replacing four existing supply transformers (with a total capacity of 80 MVA) with two new units (providing a total capacity of 150 MVA).

Replacing the existing transformers is a committed customer-specific investment project.

Why we're doing it

This project together with other work planned including the following initiatives, will help meet the expected increase in demand in this area:

  • Reconfiguration of supply at this substation by the local lines company (Powerco) and
  • A possible new grid exit point at Papamoa
