Otahuhu Substation Diversity

Overview

What we're doing

Transpower is carrying out a project to reinforce its Otahuhu substation which is a critical connection point for transmission to Auckland and further north.

Why we're doing it

Most power into Auckland and Northland goes through Otahuhu substation, so Transpower is building another switchyard electrically and geographically separate from the existing one, but still within the existing substation site.  The new switchyard (to be housed within a building) will help connect both new and existing lines to and from Otahuhu.

This is a long-term solution that together with the following projects helps provide diversity of transmission into and across Auckland:
