Greenline

Greenline is Transpower’s community environmental partnership programme. The programme presents an exciting opportunity to work in conjunction with local councils, to support locally driven environmental projects over a three year period. By working on longer term partnerships we get to see real environmental progress in the districts that host our assets, which can be enjoyed by the local communities.

We look forward to working with environmental groups, schools, councils and our own staff on these projects.  We’re close to announcing our first Greenline partnership projects – watch this space!

Other environmental projects

Brownhill Project

Transpower has been working with the community to identify environmental and recreational options for the land surrounding the Brownhill substation.

We were pleased that so many people came to the community workshop held in September 2011 and provided written submissions on suitable environmental outcomes for the site.

Having considered this feedback, we are excited to confirm our plan for the site: to restore the site to provide a walking based recreational area open to the community. This will involve native planting, particularly on erosion prone land, retaining grassy lowlands, restoring the upper riparian margins of the stream and creating a meandering walking track.

Access to the site will primarily be from Umbria Lane (except for access from Brownhill Road for our own operational purposes).  We will also be disposing of some land for development at the top of the site, again accessed off Umbria Lane.

The next step is to confirm a detailed planting plan which will be guided by the overall site vision.   We’ll be working on the plan this year, with a view to undertaking planting later in the year.

We look forward to building a community recreation area with your support.

Pakuranga-Penrose corridor project

Transpower, as part of the North Auckland and Northland (NAaN) supply upgrade project, is removing the existing PAK-PEN A transmission line and laying a new 220kV cable to connect its substations at Pakuranga and Penrose. The Pak-PEN corridor is an existing three kilometre section of designated corridor which currently houses four transmission lines (one to be removed). This corridor has previously been leased to a range of uses such as market gardens, but is now free from development.

We are looking at options to improve the general amenity of the corridor, including reviewing opportunities to provide access to connect recreational paths or undertake environmental improvements.  Community input is welcome, check here for updates as to how you can let us know your thoughts.
