Commitments

The National Grid is the backbone of New Zealand's energy infrastructure and provides clear social and economic benefits to people and communities throughout New Zealand. It provides a robust and reliable electricity transmission platform which powers New Zealand's economy and meets the increasing needs of business and communities.

A reliable electricity supply is essential to keep New Zealand’s economy growing. Knowing that the lights will turn on at the flick of a switch is the reasonable expectation of every electricity consumer. Transpower is focussed on ensuring that the National Grid meets the needs of industrial, business, farming and domestic electricity consumers now and into the future.

While the National Grid currently meets New Zealand’s needs, significant investment in new and upgraded transmission lines will be needed across the country over the coming decade to meet the growing demand for electricity.

To meet this commitment, Transpower have issued a series of policy statements.
